Brainbot Terminology

Assessment: (1) a type of sequence designed to help the teacher understand what the learner
has learned, usually in the form of questions the learner must answer. (2) refers to the
Assessment workflow type for a sequence in which the next interaction is sent to the learner
immediately after answering the previous question.

Booster (or Boost): (1) a term used to describe a post-training reinforcement interaction usually
in the days and weeks following the training. While mainly referring to review-type questions, a
booster can also be related content, like a video or an article, sent to a learner to refresh
memory or extend the learning from the original class or course. At Bigger Brains, we often use
booster interchangeably with the term interaction. (2) refers to the Booster workflow type for a
sequence in which interactions will be sent on a specific, pre-determined schedule.

Category (or Level): a teacher-defined descriptor for an interaction. All interactions can be
categorized as Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3. These values are only used for identification and can
be helpful when reordering interactions.

Channel: the format which BrainBot will deliver interactions to a learner (e.g. email, Slack or
Microsoft Teams).

Content (Resource): usually refers to an interaction type that provides information to a learner
without asking a question. The term “content” is used interchangeably with “resource” in the
context of describing interactions.

Learner: a person interacting with BrainBot, also known as a user or student.

Interaction: a communication from BrainBot and any responses. An interaction is often a
question or a resource sent from BrainBot as a part of a sequence plus the learner’s response.

Question: a typical form of an interaction sent from BrainBot as a part of a sequence, where the
learner is expected to respond with an answer.

Resource (Content): usually refers to an interaction type that provides information only to a
learner. The term “resource” is used interchangeably with “content” in the context of describing
interactions.

Schedule: the predetermined timing of interactions. When building a sequence, teachers select
a schedule from the BrainBot list of schedules options.

Sequence: a series of interactions which will be delivered to learners on a set schedule and in a
specific order. A sequence may or may not have interactions that require the learner to
respond. A sequence can be like a test, quiz, or review with the questions sent on a schedule to
optimize recall in the weeks following a training. A sequence can also be a series of lessons sent
out on a specified schedule to learners.

Teacher: someone who has an upgraded BrainBot account who can create their own sequences.

Workflow type: identifies a sequence as either boost or assessment type and refers to the
timing of when interactions are sent to a learner (on a pre-defined schedule or triggered by a
learner answering a question).

So, a Teacher can use BrainBot to send a Booster Sequence to a Learner, with that Sequence consisting of a series of Questions and Resource Interactions delivered on a preset Schedule
