Building Custom Courses Within BrainStation
Learn how to create custom courses that effectively meet your specific learning goals.

In BrainStation, you can create custom courses for your Team via the CourseBuilder.
Please Note:
In order to create custom courses within BrainStation, your User account will need Team Assistant or Team Leader access.
Accessing the CourseBuilder:
- Access the Team Dashboard.
- Select CourseBuilder from the dashboard menu.

Creating a Custom Course:
- Click + Create New Course.

- Enter a Course Name.
- Add an Image and Description to the course.
Please Note:
There are 4 checkboxes you can select on this page. By checking these boxes, the following will occur.

Visible in Team Library:
- If this is checked, this course is visible in the Team Library for all users on this Team; if not checked, it’s only available when it’s assigned by a Team Leader.

Shareable:
- If checked, it enables the sharing links for each lesson.

Show Certificate:
- If checked, completing the course will generate a Course Completion Certificate.

Digital Signature Course:
- If checked, this field will ask to choose pre- or post-course, and it will prompt users to “sign” their name after reading the text. Digital signatures also record users’ IP addresses and timestamps.

- Once you have customized this section, select Next.

- Select + Add New Module to create the structure for this course.

- From here, you can select what type of modules you would like to add.

- You will be able to customize module names and descriptions.

There are currently 12 types of modules you can add. For an overview of the module types, see the video below.
- DOC
- HTML (Text)
- iFrame
- PPT/PPTX

Question
- Multiple-choice question setup inside the course.

Question Pool
- Choose from an existing question pool, and choose how many questions from that pool will be displayed and whether they’re randomized.

Section Break
- This breaks courses into sections and is used to add text, images, and links without an actual module.

Video
- MP4, Upload directly to BrainStation, up to 100MB.
- Vimeo and YouTube are better choices for larger videos.

Please Note:
Some module types include an option of Embedded or New Window. Embedded will attempt to show the information in a pop-up window in BrainStation, while New Window will open the document or website in a new browser tab. We recommend experimenting with both settings to see which works best for your content.
- Once you have customized the module name and description, select Add Module.

- To see all the modules you have created, select Return to Course Details.

- From here, you can rearrange modules by selecting the drag handle icon.
- You can also continue to add modules.
- If you are satisfied with their arrangement, select Next.

- Review your custom course before publishing.
- When ready, select Publish.
Please Note:
You can select Previous and edit the course before publishing. Additionally, once the course is published, you can still edit it at any time.

Editing a Custom Course:
- Select CourseBuilder from the Team Dashboard menu.
- Next to the course you would like to edit, select Edit.

- From here, you can change the course name, description, image, and edit the checkboxes.
- Additionally, you can remove or add modules.
- After you review any changes made, select Update Course.

Delete a Custom Course:
- Select CourseBuilder from the Team Dashboard menu.
- Click Delete next to the course you would like removed.

- A pop-up will ask you to confirm the deletion.

- Select Yes.
- The course and all reported data regarding that course will be removed.
